Solar radiation,
the wind, flowing water, nuclear, and fossil fuels are all sources of energy
that can be used directly or converted into other, more usable forms of energy.
Energy definitions and units are very important because a thorough understanding of these definitions and units, and how they are related, is essential to be able to analyze energy usage and efficiency. It is very also important to distinguish between energy sources and energy carriers.
Over the course
of the Institute, teachers learned how to conduct a variety of experiments
which can be duplicated in the classroom and used to generate data that can
be analyzed further. A spreadsheet is included below which allows the user
to compare fuel costs. The interactive Jeopardy game, which can be used to
evaluate knowledge on key concepts, is also included on this CD.
